Tummy tuck breast augmentation
Breast and tummy tuck surgery at the same time by the same surgeon?
What a good question to ask! The correct answer to give is to ask this of the surgeon that you may choose to assist you in your desire to have a better shape.
Many of the Plastic Surgeons (Board Certified in Plastic Surgery only) are very skilled in performing both procedures, and fatigue should not be a factor in doing this surgery.
I frequently perform both procedures together, and oftentimes as an outpatient for the patient, but this has to be individualized for a given patient.
Not everyone is a candidate for this combination of procedures.
Get different opinions, talk to past patients, do your homework! (Francis (Frank) William Rieger, MD, Tampa Plastic Surgeon)
So as plastic surgeons we are all trained to be competent in all types of operations. First, make sure your surgeon is a board certified plastic surgeon. This means that your surgeon has been deemed by his or her peers to be competent to complete all of the surgeries in the field of plastic surgery.
I do those two operations together all the time. If you do have two different surgeons that you want then you have to ask if they will work together. Being that said, your surgeon should be able to do both at the same time. Nobody can tell you how your surgeon handles long cases relative to fatigue but we do 6 hour operations all the time. (Richard J. Brown, MD, Scottsdale Plastic Surgeon)
I frequently perform breast augmentations and tummy tucks in the same surgery. For the most part, this can always be accomplished. However, if you also need a breast lift or lipo, that may change whether or not we can safely do everything at the same time. Make sure you talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon with positive reviews and plenty of before & after pictures before making your decision. (Brian Reedy, MD, Reading Plastic Surgeon)
Combination breast augmentation and tummy tuck
It is very common for experienced plastic surgeons to combine procedures, particularly involving the breast and the abdomen, as components of what is commonly referred to as the “mommy makeover”.
This is a safe thing to do, provided that you are in good health and that the proposed operative time isn’t much over 6 hours. Most experienced plastic surgeons can perform both procedures in that space of time, unless there are complexities specific to your case that may add to the operative time.
As far as excelling at both, since this is a combination of procedures that are commonly performed together, it is possible for a plastic surgeon to be really skilled in both areas. Find a surgeon with the right training and credentials who can perform your procedure in an accredited OR or in the hospital, and you will do fine. (Ruth Celestin, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
This is probably the most common combination procedure done in plastic surgery. Fatigue should not be a factor since both surgeries are fairly short timewise. (Donald Griffin, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
A tummy tuck and breast augmentation are very commonly performed together, sometimes along with liposuction and/or a breast lift (ie. “Mommy Makeover”). Although surgery is physically demanding, fatigue is seldom an issue. A highly skilled plastic surgeon should be an expert in both procedures. Please see an experienced, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to discuss your concerns. (Larry Fan, MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tuck breast augmentation
Both a breast augmentation and tummy tuck can be safely performed together. They are commonly know as a mommy makeover and may take 4 -6 hours in the operating room. You should make sure your surgeon is board certified, and the facility is accredited.
You may want to look at patient reviews or speak to current patients. Be sure to see before and after photos. (Lisa M. DiFrancesco, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
As long as you are healthy and your PS has no concerns after reviewing your medical history, there is no reason why you shouldn’t have both procedures done on the same day. This is very common (“mommy makeover”). Be sure your surgeon is operating out of an accredited OR. You should also ask who will be doing your anesthesia. Some surgeons use nurse anesthetists (good) and others use anesthesiologists (best). You should ask if your surgeon commonly performs these together and if so, how often and how many has he or she done. If your surgery is scheduled for more than 6 hours, you should inquire about an overnight stay in the hospital or wherever the surgery is being performed. (Victor Ferrari, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
Breast augmentation with tummy tuck
It’s very common to have these procedures done at the same time; hence the coined term, “mommy makeover”. Having these procedures done at the same time should be able to be performed well within a 5-6 hour period, which seems a reasonable cutoff time for how long one should be under for elective surgery. Most surgeons will take much less than this time to perform both, depending on the complexity of your situation. This should be safe, provided you are a healthy person with no significant medical problems. (Roxanne Sylora, MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
Combination surgical procedures are done on a routine basis. However, it is best to evaluate each patient on an individualized basis. During this consultation process, after a complete history and physical, the SAFETY of combining these surgical procedures becomes of paramount importance.
Factors such as selection of plastic surgeon, exact procedures planned, estimated blood loss, duration of surgery, recovery considerations, anesthesia provider, duration of surgery, surgery facility are all important considerations. Having said that, the combination surgery you are considering is quite commonly performed and yes, plastic surgeons can be “excellent at both”. I routinely do breast augmentation and tummy tuck at the same surgery but my partner who is also a board certified plastic surgeon operates with me. Having to board certified plastic surgeons at the same operation significantly reduces operating time by about one half. Next Generally speaking when plastic surgery procedures take longer than 4 hours the rate of complication does increase. Your right to be concerned about surgeon fatigue. I suggest that you have a detailed conversation with your plastic surgeon and express your concerns. If you are at all at on knees about this then you should have only one procedure at a time with the same plastic surgeon or consider consultations elsewhere. (Brooke R. Seckel, MD, FACS, Boston Plastic Surgeon)
