Tummy tuck mini vs full

Tummy Tuck vs a Mini Tummy Tuck

A “mini tummy tuck” can mean different things in terms of the specifics of the surgical procedure, depending on which surgeon is performing it.

A full tummy tuck typically entails full plication (tightening) of the abominal muscles, which gives significant benefits in terms of contouring.

Based on the picture, you may be a candidate for a version of a tummy tuck where the belly button is moved down slightly (called “floating” the belly button), as well as some liposuction of the abdomen.

Also, I would wonder what it is about the tummy tuck that scares you, but does not scare you about the mini tummy tuck.I would recommend consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon, express your concerns, and come up with a good plan for you.(Hampton Alexander Howell, MD, Winston Salem Plastic Surgeon)

The tummy tuck mini vs full

A mini tummy tuck can yield good results in a very small group of patients. A mini tummy tuck is offered to people like yourself who are afraid of a full tummy tuck with the understanding that the results of the mini tummy tuck for you would not be as good as the results of a full tummy tuck. (Beverly Friedlander, MD, Short Hills Plastic Surgeon)

It is hard to tell from your pics exactly what you need, but only about 10% of patients I see are good candidates for mini tummy tuck.

The advantage of the standard tummy tuck is that you can remove more skin, do a better muscle repair and achieve a better waistline. While the scar is a little longer, it is hidden by most all clothing. The recovery for a mini tummy tuck is no shorter.

Hopefully you can find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to help you. (M. Scott Haydon, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

Full vs. mini-tummy tuck

Its really difficult to tell exactly what you need from your photos.

You really need to start with visiting w a board certified PS for a formal physical exam to start learning about your options. (C. Bob Basu, MD, FACS, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

It is difficult to tell from your photographs but it appears that you would be a better candidate for a standard abdominoplasty with repair of the anterior abdominal fascia.

I do not think you would be pleased with the limited results of a mini-abdominoplasty. (Jeffrey Zwiren, MD, Richmond Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck mini or full?

Your pictures do not help much but most of the time a full tummy tuck is the way to go. A small number of people need a mini. A mini will not give you the same results so if your can have a full it is the way to go. Please see a board certified doctor. (Gregory Lynam, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

Difficult to say from the photos but generally the mini tuck is suitable for a mini segment of the patient population. Best to see a board certified plastic surgeon for a consultation. (Robert L. Kraft, MD, Los Angeles Plastic Surgeon)

Photos with underwear showing the lower half of the abdomen will be very helpful to answer your question of whether you are a candidate for a full tummy tuck vs a mini tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck does not rejuvenate the belly button so if this is something that you would like to see accomplished a full tummy tuck would be the proper option for you. (Remus Repta, MD)

First of all, what is your BMI? If it is over 30, I would not do any surgery until you got on a weight loss plan. Tummy tucks are designed to get rid of excess skin, diet takes care of the fat. (William B. Rosenblatt, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)

I believe that you are a candidate for a full TT due to the changes around and above your belly button. I do not believe that a mini will achieve even close to the same goals. (Rick Rosen, MD, Norwalk Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction and a mini tummy tuck will most likely not satisfy your desires and expectations but it certainly is an alternative. Liposuction removes fat but not skin. If you are willing to have some relaxed skin in exchange for less fat, then you may be a candidate for liposuction and a mini tt.

The total cost of liposuction and a mini tummy tuck is $6000 which includes the Board Certified Surgeons fee, Board Certified Anesthesiologist fee, and Medicare Approved Surgicenter fee. The total cost of a tummy tuck is $8000. (George C. Peck, Jr, MD, West Orange Plastic Surgeon)

Although it is difficult to tell from just a photo, with your degree of laxity of the abdominal wall and excess skin continuing above the belly button it appears as if you would have a much better result from a full tummy tuck. A mini TT would leave you lax and more full in the upper abdomen. As always a full assessment/consultation in person is needed to discuss your goals, health and expected outcome. It looks as if you would have an excellent result. (Joseph B. Eby, MD, FACS, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy Tuck VS mini tummy tuck

The degree of saggy skin you have on your abdomen makes you a perfect candidate for a Full Tummy Tuck in order to eliminate the saggy skin and a nice muscle repair to achieve a small and tapered waist. Mini Tummy Tuck is for patients who do not have at all saggy skin above navel and minimum saggy skin below navel. Based on your photos, a mini tummy tuck will end up with poor results, remaining saggy skin and most likely regretted.

Be sure your doctor is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and all of his/her team is too, also you will be tested (blood and EKG) to be sure you are ok for having surgery and you will be on good hands. (Laura Carmina Cardenas, MD, Mexico Plastic Surgeon)

Mini or full tummy tuck?

For you to obtain a result worth undergoing surgery at all, a full tummy tuck would likely be needed. In addition, liposuction of the abdomen and flanks will also be needed to give a dramatic result.

A mini tuck will only address the lower abdomen unless the umbilicus is floated (meaning disconnected from the abdominal wall allowing more aggressive skin removal). In my opinion the difference in downtime is negligible between the two surgeries if any amount of undermining is done especially if the umbilicus is cut. In addition floating the belly button burns bridges for future options if a revision is needed. With the addition of pain pumps, the downtime/pain can be managed appropriately. Visit a plastic surgeon or two in your area and discuss your options/expectations. (Shayne Webb, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
