Not too skinny for tummy tuck with loose skin and muscle separation

The ideal patient for a tummy tuck is one who has done their part with diet and exercise so that they know what they can accomplish on their own and what the tummy tuck does.

When there is loose skin and a degree of muscle separation after pregnancy, then a tummy tuck is the way to go. What version of a tummy tuck depends on an in-person exam to assess. (Richard Baxter, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)

The purpose of the abdominoplasty is to remove excess skin and address any fascia issues you do not have skin fold and you are not candidate for a tummy tuck.

If the facia is loose it can be imbricated through the umbilicus and a pubic incision. If the skin is loose consider ipl, hifu, fractional laser. (Ofer Rodriguez, DO, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

Would you deny a tummy tuck procedure because a patient is “too skinny?

I think, based on your comments and your photo, that you would do well with a TummyTuck. If you are seeing a skillful and experienced surgeon you don’t need to worry about being too tight. (Ronald V. DeMars, MD)

I believe you are an excellent candidate for a full tt. Unfortunately and plastic surgeons differ mini tt’s give mini results. I agree with your surgeon. (Peter Fisher, MD, Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon)

Based on your pictures, history of two pregnancies, and current height/weight, you would be a great candidate for a tummy tuck operation. Glad to hear that your plastic surgeon is confident enough to do a tummy tuck, because you would look great after having one. There is usually enough skin and tissue laxity after having children to perform a tummy tuck. (Bryson G. Richards, MD, Honolulu Plastic Surgeon)

Mini tummy tuck candidate

Based on your description and photos, you are a great candidate for a mini tummy tuck. Patients with minimal skin excess, but primarily abdominal wall laxity, do very well with this procedure. If the surgery is planned and executed correctly, there should be no risk of being too tight. (Shim Ching, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

It is difficult to give you a good answer without an in office exam. However, your skin and muscle laxity are not nearly of the level of a standard tummy tuck patient. You also have very little subcutaneous tissue to liposuction or directly excise. Hence, it is important to assess and weigh the pro’s and con’s of elective cosmetic surgery if you are determined to be a candidate. I would recommend consultation with 3 board certified plastic surgeons prior to any decision. (Paul S. Gill, MD, Cleveland Plastic Surgeon)

Can you be too skinny for a tummy tuck?

It looks like you may be a candidate for a “mini” or lower tummy tuck. This is where less skin is removed and the main point of the operation is to tighten the underlying muscle. You are not too skinny for this procedure and should get a good result. (Daniel A. Medalie, MD, Pensacola Plastic Surgeon)

Not at all but you have to understand there are two different things done in a tummy tuck. The obvious is that the skin is tightened. However, the more important part in you is that the muscles are also tightened. from your photos it appears you have some muscle diastasis or splitting of the muscles. This is common after pregnancies. The “pooch” that many women complain about is often the muscles are split and need to be tightened. this certainly appears to be the case here. You can see more photos of patients lie yourself at Destin Plastic Surgery website under the before and after photos. (Lawrence Scott Ennis, MD, FACS, )
