Tummy Tuck on Thin Women
Not a problem with tummy tuck on Thin Women
I don’t think that there are any special problems with performing a tummy tuck on a relatively thin woman, provided that you have adequate laxity of your skin.
I would recommend consulting a board certified plastic surgeon in your area. I recommend checking the website of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. (James Tang, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Thin women can get amazing results after tummy tucks. It mostly just depends on how much loose skin and how much muscle waekness there is to be fixed.
But the surgeon won’t have to worry about “re-sahping” something that’s not there already. You should get a great result. Just keep looking for the right surgeon in your area. (Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
More information would be necessary to determine if you would be best suited with a full tummy tuck versus a mini-tummy tuck. Most plastic surgeons with experience in tummy tuck surgery will come across a wide variety of body types, including thin women such as yourself. Regarding a recommendation, I would suggest going to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons website and finding a qualified surgeon in your area. (Glenn Vallecillos, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Skinny Girl and Tummy Tuck is a perfect fit
All cosmetic surgical procedures work best on patients with a perfect start. You are it. Normal weight, post-pregnancy skin excess and stretched abdominal wall are the perfect starting points for a wonderful outcome from abdominoplasty. (Vasdev Rai, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)
A tummy tuck in a normal weight (or skinny person) is very similar to a regular tummy tuck.
The main concerns are:
1. do you have enough skin for a full tummy tuck
2. are you aware that the scar will not be shorter just because you are skinnier.
In my Sonoma or Marin County tummy tuck patients, I make sure that I point out excatly where the scar may be and how long it will be. Most patients are thrilled to get rid of the skin that never goes away even with constant workouts. (Francisco Canales, MD, Santa Rosa Plastic Surgeon)
I think you would be a good candidate for a tummy tuck and the liklihood is that you would get a very nice result. Most of us have photos on our websites of women with different body types who have had tummy tucks – some leaner physiques, others a bit more heavy set – so hopefully you can get an idea of the results you could expect.
The best thing to do would be to see a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon for a consultation so they can go over your options, examine you and put a plan together for your procedure. (Shahram Salemy, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
We San Diego surgeons generally see a population of moms that are at ideal body weight. I personally have performed tummy tucks on women that are lean beyond belief, almost zero body fat. Provided there is enough extra skin and post-partum abdominal wall relaxation, you should get a good result. The question is usually whether or not the improvement you can expect will be worth the scar. Many fit women wear small bottoms, and enjoy showing their bodies. The key surgical detail is to conceal the scar behind your normal bikini bottom.
You can check our site for some examples, although we have many more actual results than we’ve had time to post online. (Steve Laverson, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
A Tummy Tuck surgery for a “fit mother” usually achieves a better result than for those patients who need to lose weight. However, performing the abdominoplasty procedure on a lean patient does have specific considerations “risks/complications associated with it, apart from those seen in performing the abdominoplasty operation for heavier set patients. For example, planning of the incision line precisely is necessary to avoid undue tension upon closer of the suture line.
Sometimes, a vertical incision is necessary to safely close the umbilical opening without too much tension. I think you’re wise in selecting the surgeon with significant experience in performing abdominoplasty surgery for smaller patients. This will maximize the chances of successful outcome. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tucks can be performed on a wide range of people. From very thin with loose skin to the people with larger BMI’s. In general, mini tummy tucks help the lower BMI population and regular/larger tummy tucks the opposite. You can always just visit your plastic surgeon. (Thomas T. Jeneby, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
