Muscle Repair

If you have strong abs and they are positions close together, you may not need any tightening. If, however, when you sit up have a large bulge, then tightening the muscles will give you the best result. The recovery isn’t that much harder with muscle tightening. Ask your board certified plastic surgeon if you need it or not. Sometimes you can’t really tell until you are in surgery. (Jeffrey Gusenoff, MD, Pittsburgh Plastic Surgeon)

Seek out a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with extensive experience. You will need several more months to recover from your delivery and it would be best to try and get to your pre pregnancy weight. In many women the muscles will be stretched out and repairing them will help give you a more flat look. Please see a board certified PS who can examine you and go over your options. (Anh Lee, MD, El Paso Plastic Surgeon)

You can but should you…?

I hear your question quite a bit and sometimes not doing any muscle work makes sense.ie. the patient has great muscle tone already and no diastasis.

Unfortunately, if you need the muscle tightened, you do yourself a disservice by not having it done. Its going to make a noticeable difference in your result and I’m sure you can find child care help if you look hard enough. Good luck. (Robert Frank, MD, Munster Plastic Surgeon)
