Tummy tuck treatment

If you are finished having children, tummy tuck is the best treatment. You have stretch marks on the lower half of your abdomen, so there is no way to tighten that skin. Stretch marks mean the elastic fibers in the skin have torn; that skin will NEVER bounce back.

You are correct to think that liposuction will make your skin even more loose. Have a second consult. You will be much better served with an abdominoplasty! (Stephan Finical, MD, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)

Many women just like you are frustrated with the loose skin that won’t resolve with exercise. From what I can tell, you’re a great candidate for liposuction and a tummy tuck treatment. Be sure to ask if your PS does the new “Hollywood Tuck” which means no drains are needed.

My patients say it’s wonderful not having the drains because they’ve heard that most patient’s # 1 complaint was the drains after surgery. If I can help you in any other way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. (Victor Ferrari, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction is a reasonable option, depending on your goals. You appear to have limited extra skin. A physical exam may change that observation. The scar burden with tummy tuck treatment should always be considered, which your consultant has obviously done.

Would you have extra skin after liposuction? Probably, but the amount of extra skin does not justify the scar burden for some patients. A tummy tuck treatment is also a reasonable recommendation if you were not concerned about the scar burden.

A Tummy tuck treatment

If you were unhappy with the excess skin after liposuction, then you could always get a tummy tuck at a later time. As a general rule, after having children, skin on the abdomen does not tighten or shrink significantly after liposuction. The stretch marks could indicate poor skin tone/elasticity, in which case there would be very little shrinkage after liposuction.

It is important to understand that surgeons recommend a specific procedure(s) based on the goals the patient articulates during the consultation. Depending upon the goals you expressed to the surgeon, either procedure is reasonable, and neither procedure is ideal. In other words, the surgeon’s recommendation may change based on on the bias conveyed by the patient.

What is the best procedure to get rid of the fat I have so I can finally have a flat stomach again?

After evaluating your photos I think a reasonable approach would be to have liposuction to get rid of the redundant fat on your abdomen but a tummy tuck treatment will be needed to get your extra skin removed. With your history of 2 children your skin will probably not shrink sufficiently with liposuction alone. (Thomas Guillot, MD, Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon)

Based on the photographs and your question, it appears that you would be best off with a combination of tummy tuck and liposuction. However, an in person consultation and examination would be necessary to fully understand your needs and objectives. (Kris M. Reddy, MD, FACS, West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon)

Your description (2 children) and photo support your concerns that liposuction is not your best option. It will leave you with loose skin. You have stretch marks, Your skin cannot bounce back. It has lost elasticity. You probably need a tummy tuck to tighten muscles, remove loose skin and liposuction the upper abdomen and flank areas.

I do not know what surgeon gave you the liposuction advice but I would see another, and be sure s/he is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. The one you saw does not seem to understand some basic issues that cause you loose tummy. (Elizabeth Morgan, MD, PhD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck treatments

Based on pictures, I would be concerned about the ability of your skin to “bounce back” after liposuction alone. You appear to have significant stretch marks to your lower abdomen which indicates you likely have poor elasticity to that skin.

Again, based on pictures alone, it appears that you would be a good candidate for a full tummy tuck along with some liposuction to get the best results. Make sure you are examined by a board-certified plastic surgeon in person to get the best information as online consultations are limited. (Naveen Setty, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)

Minimum a mini TT, you will have loose skin after any type of liposuction, you already have. Find other opinions. (Luis Redondo, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)

Although you can’t get an accurate assessment of your skin and muscles from the photos. It seems that you could use some liposuction in the upper part of your abdomen, and you do appear to have some stretch marks and skin laxity so a tummy tuck treatment or a mini may be a good option.

You should see some other surgeons in your area and get some more opinions to make sure you are happy with your results. You are right to be concerned that liposuction alone may not get you the results you are looking for. Liposuction gets rid of the fat, but tummy tuck can improve your contour, remove some of the stretchmarks, and tighten your muscles. (Yuly Gorodisky, DO, Oxnard Plastic Surgeon)
