Tummy tucks without surgery
It is difficult to make the decision to do a surgical procedure to get rid of the excess skin at your age, but it may be the only way to improve your abdomen.
If your excess is not too severe, and doesn’t cause you self-esteem issues, you should probably wait until you have had children if that is in your future plans. (Donald Griffin, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)
Unfortunately, the loose skin will not improve with further diet, exercise, creams or the multitude of ‘miracle’ technologies that are heavily marketed.
Based on your history and physical exam findings you will likely benefit from tummy tuck surgery at some point. Ideally, this should be done after completing pregnancies (if this is in your plans).
When the time is right seek consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. Best wishes. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
Large volume weight loss typically results in redundant skin, but the ability for the skin to recoil is largely related to both age and genetics. Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any magic solutions for what you are experiencing, but judging by the limited picture, your skin has adapted well.
While a mini tummy tuck would remove some of the lower skin you would trade the tightness for a scar. Keep up the exercise and health and avoid surgery until after pregnancy. (John Renucci, MD, Grand Rapids Plastic Surgeon)
Excess skin presently requires surgery to remove the excess. There is not an effective alternative creams etc just do not work. (Jay M. Pensler, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
The ability of skin to shrinkwrap after large weight losses depends on a lot of factors including your age, ethnic background/skin type, the speed at which the skin was stretched and extent of stretching, the damage to the skin (? stretch marks) and your pland regarding future pregnancies.
There is NO technique or tool on the market which can tighten loose skin anywhere close to what can be done by a Tummy Tuck surgery. Creams are a total waste of your money – regardless of what the say. Something that MAY work with multiple treatments may be the Joule SKIN TYTE which uses infrared technology to heat up skin collagen.
Even in the best circumstances while it may get ok results, they do not surpass those obtained by an average Tummy Tuck. (Peter A. Aldea, MD, Memphis Plastic Surgeon)
Great to have lost the weight but the lower tummy skin looks to be streched . This means it has been damaged and will not return to normal. Unfortunately, exercise will not help the skin quality. Surgery may be an option a some point. (Miguel Delgado, Jr., MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy tucks without surgery will achieve only 10-20%. Mini Tummy Tuck more effective
Continue with your exercise and fitness. In the future you may decide to have children so I would NOT do a Mini Tummy Tuck now. I would not give up on further tightening of your skin at 9 months. You may continue to improve. Non surgical skin tightening or Tummy Tuck is not terribly effective. Procedures like LuxIR, Thermage, Titan and others do tighten skin but only 10-20% and then only if done by very experienced Medical Personnel at high settings. (Brooke R. Seckel, MD, FACS, Boston Plastic Surgeon)
There is no good way to shrink excess skin by tummy tucks without surgery – it has to be removed surgically.
After weight loss, loose skin is commonly an unwanted side effect. The only way to fix the problem is to surgically remove it. Skin “tightening” technologies do not work. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Can I Tighten my Loose Abdominal Skin Without Surgery?
The thing you have in your favor is your age and many times skin in young people can go back with some exercise.but the challenge in the 75 lb. weight loss which is a lot and you should feel great about that. But because of that, you may need a bit of skin tightening. There is only so much exercise can do and creams do not work. (John J. Corey, MD, Phoenix Plastic Surgeon)
Excess skin after weight loss
There is no effective alternatives to tummy tuck when skin excess is present after weight loss. Given your very young age, and very good contour and tone, we would discourage surgery at this time and consider future pregnancy, and avoiding scars. (Peter E. Johnson, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
Loose skin after weight loss
Loose skin after weight loss cannot be corrected without surgery. Lasers, thermage etc are expensive and only effective for some patients. You may consider this but they are expensive (Jed H. Horowitz, MD, FACS, Orange County Plastic Surgeon)
Loose Skin After Large Weight Loss can Only be Improved Through Surgery
First of all, you should be very proud of your accomplishment – your weight loss will undoubtedly lead to better health throughout your life. Unfortunately, there will be no effective and safe option for you to tighten the loose skin you have as a result of the weight loss that does not involve surgery. My recommendation at this time would be to live with it if you can – especially if you think that pregnancy may be in your future (even if years away). Once your family is complete, then you can proceed with a procedure to restore you appearance. Alternatively, if because it will be a long time before you consider becoming pregnant, and because this loose skin bothers you a lot, you could proceed with a more minor skin excision now.
Be sure you put yourself in the hands of the best surgeon you can find- shortcuts and shopping for the lowest price usually don’t pay off in plastic surgery (Armando Soto, MD, FACS, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)
In the long run I think the cheapest and most predictable way to get rid of the skin is with a mini tummy tuck. It sounds a lot more than it really will be. It would leave you with a very short low horizontal scar, like women after a C-section. Recovery should be very quick because there’s no muscle work needed. Thermage and Titan are available but probably won’t do the trick. Not much risk but the money that you will spend. (Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
