6 weeks post op tummy tuck swelling

When a tummy tuck is performed, the pubic area typically gets a “lift” as a side effect, usually a nice benefit but it can make it appear fuller. There is also swelling which will continue to get better for many months. However at 6 weeks, if you see that big a mismatch in the appearance of the pubus against the incision, there is a chance it will persist and that it’s fat.

I see this often during tummy tuck surgery and take care of it using the small liposuction canulas for the neck connected to the regular OR suction. This allows the area to be smoothed and evened up in less than 5 minutes without additional resources and cost. If traditional liposuction is used there would often be additional supplies and cost and this is something to discuss with your surgeon after the 6 weeks post op tummy tuck swelling has subsided. (Gregory J. Stagnone, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)

You may require liposuction or direct excision of your mons pubic area to eliminate the bulge in the pubic area. Typically during a tummy tuck, I remove some of this excess fat so as to avoid any unsightly bulges. Discuss this with your plastic surgeon to see if this area can be revised. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

I agree with the below answers. The tummy tuck swelling typically takes 2-3 months to resolve completely. It is always possible to liposuction the area later. (Christopher J. Davidson, MD, FACS, Wellesley Plastic Surgeon)

This is a frequent issue after TT’s. 6 weeks post op tummy tuck swelling tends to migrate with gravity over time to the lower abdominoplasty flap and Mons region.

Time will usually fix this. In a rare few cases, the lower muscle plication is inadequately tightened and may appear more full than the upper region. Compression for at least 6 weeks will help reduce some of the swelling. (Christian Prada, MD, FACS, Saint Louis Plastic Surgeon)

Unfortunately, it is difficult to lower this tummy tuck scar as part of a revision. This can be a problem when designing the incision too low, it then forces the mons tissue up.

I would recommend revision liposuction to help decrease the volume. This should help relax the tissues and provide more comfort in clothing. (Paul S. Gill, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)

The pubic region, below the normal abdominoplasty incision, is usually lifted and tightened to varying degree depending on the laxity of the skin. Without being able to see your scar, it’s difficult to predict if any change in the position of the scar will take place. It’s possible that the tissue will loosen up and a revision of the scar may locate it down to your ideal location. (John J. Edney, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

Six weeks post surgery is still early, it maybe still be 6 weeks post op tummy tuck swelling wait at least six months before considering liposuction of the area. (Jhonny Salomon, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)

At this early stage it is often difficult to tell what is still swelling and what is unsatisfactory position and contour of this area. I can tell you that this should be an important aesthetic landmark on a woman’s torso, and it must be considered in the planning of the tummy tuck to avoid postoperative deformity and displacement of structures. Often this area becomes stretched, enlarged, or misshapen with pregnancy and weight loss, and if this is not addressed in some way during the tummy tuck, it can cause this area to appear disproportionate, displaced, or deformed.

At this point, the only thing that you can do is allow another couple of months to elapse so that swelling fully resolves, and reassess the appearance with your surgeon. You may find that in the end, everything settles and appears satisfactory, however, if it doesn’t, you may require a revision of that area to improve the appearance.
