Can i have a tummy tuck after c section
The tummy tuck scar in many cases runs at about the level of the C-section and should not pose a risk during surgery.
Patients who have c-section scars are usually some of the happiest abdominoplasty patients. I do liposuction with almost every abdominoplasty.
I feel that it helps the abdominal contour far better than just abdominoplasty alone. Patients frequently request liposuction alone, when they really need both procedures.
Patients with prior c-section scars seem to be more comfortable with the concept of transverse scar extension (required with abdominoplasty). After a c-section (or any surgery) there will be scar tissue that forms. The vast majority of the time, this will not be the source of a problem.
Typical c-section scars should not effect the results of an abdominoplasty in the hands of a board certified plastic surgeon. (Joshua Lampert, MD, Miami Plastic Surgeon)
Many TT patients have had one or more C-sections. We make the tummy tuck incision below the C-section scar and remove it during the tummy tuck procedure. It does not change your risk at all. (Ronald V. DeMars, MD, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
A C-section, or four, will not interfere with your Tummy Tuck. If your C-sections healed well, so should your Abdominoplasty. Typically, the skin removed with the Tummy Tuck includes the skin with the C-section scar, so any evidence of the C-section is removed during the procedure. (Joseph Mele, MD, Walnut Creek Plastic Surgeon)
Many women choose to have a tummy tuck specifically because of the changes to their abdomen after c-section; having had 4 previous c-sections will not make you at a higher risk for surgery. (Amy T. Bandy, DO, FACS, Newport Beach Plastic Surgeon)
This is an extremely common scenario. As a matter of fact, if the c-section scar is unsightly then the tummy tuck is a wonderful way to revise the scar. Most of the time the entire c-section scar can be removed, unless it is extremely low and you do not have a lot of excess skin. Of course the best way to give you the most accurate advise is an in person consultation with a plastic surgeon. (Luis H. Macias, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
You are at no increased risk for an abdominoplasty becuase you have had C-sections in the past. It is quite common to do abdominoplasties on women who have had C-sections in the past.
In a standard tummy tuck, the c-section scar is almost always removed. As women’s undergarments have become lower, so too have tummy tuck scars. As a result, most tummy tuck incisions now start below c-section scars. Regarding safety, assuming you had no trouble with your c-section healing, the surgery should be as safe is if it was not there.
The surgery can be a little more challenging and require a little more care right where the old scar used to be but the elevated risk is minimal. As always, the skill and care taken by the surgeon can change this equation. (Jeremy Pyle, MD, Raleigh-Durham Plastic Surgeon)
C Sections and tummy tucks
Not to worry. You are not at any higher risk having had a C section in the past. In fact most of the time your scar can be completely removed during the tummy tuck. (Ronald Schuster, MD, Baltimore Plastic Surgeon)
