Complications of tummy tuck

You must think twice before doing surgery out of the country. You always want to find a board certified plastic surgeon who has done at least 100 of these procedures per year.

I recommend allowing the skin to recover and heal for a few months, but you may need a revision surgery. (Henry Mentz, MD, Houston Facial Plastic Surgeon)

Please think long and hard before going overseas or even to a distant part of this country for a surgery. Complications can happen to anybody and to any surgeon. Part of being a surgeon is taking care of the less than perfect results.

The money you save by going elsewhere will be spent paying someone else to take care of the problem. (Jonathan Saunders, MD, Newark Plastic Surgeon)

A complications of tummy tuck

There is nothing to do right now other than local wound care. I agree with the admonition regarding debridement, i.e. it should be avoided. Let skin recover and heal and it should be okay in the next 6-8 weeks. (Earl E. Ferguson III, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck problem

Unfortunetly this is a common result with “cheaper” cosmetic surgery. I assume that if you live in the US and traveled to the DR for a surgery it must have been price driven rather than referral or convienence.

Complications of tummy tuck operation

As such, I have found way more complications of tummy tuck in these circumstances than typically seen in the US with board certified surgeons operating out of legitimate hospitals.I am sorry for your complication but you really need to wait it out.

Good local wound care is all that can be done right now. If you need revision or debridement once the extent of the damaged tissue declares itself, I sincerely hope you find a compassionate local surgeon to help improve your results. (Marc Polecritti, DO)

Complications of tummy tuck After Medical Tourism

Complications of tummy tuck photo

From your photos, it appears that you have a complication related to skin circulation after the procedure in the Dominican Republic. If the skin dies, this will likely take months to suffieintly heal, and then a revision procedure should be dleayed signifcantly to ensure it doesnt happen again.

Deal with the acute issues while in the the DR, and then you will likely need a scar revision of some sort in the future. You should see a board certified plastic surgeon when you rreturn to get a formal opinion through an in-person consultation.  (Vincent P. Marin, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)

Pitfalls of having and abdominoplasty is a medical tourist.

The complications of tummy tuck

It looks as though there is going to be some skin loss on the abdomen. This will require several weeks of proper wound care. This should be supervised by the surgeon who operated upon you. (Vincent N. Zubowicz, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

The good news is that you have partial loss and not complete necrosis. Please do not have debridement and let it heal with wound care. You need to make sure that there is no smoking around you and keep the wound clean. Please find a local plastic surgeon to take care of you . I am not sure about apply Venosmil since that is for varicose vein and not wound care. (Kamran Khoobehi, MD, New Orleans Plastic Surgeon)

Necrosis (death) of skin in lower abdomen complications of tummy tuck

Complications of tummy tuck surgery

You appear to have necrosis of the skin in the lower center part of your tummy tuck. This area of tissue is the most compromised by the surgery itself due to blood supply. You also may have a wound infection and possibly tape allergy. I would not not try to revise this within a week. It will make it worse. I would see you weekly and debride (clean off) any clearly dead tissues and allow you to fully heal (or close to it) before I would do a revision. That will take weeks to months and require frequent office visits. I am am very sorry you had this complication. I wish you luck in your recovery. In the end, this can all be corrected but it may take some time and multiple procedures (Julian Gordon, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)

As you know this is not a substitute for an in person consultation but I agree with several doctors that you should see the one who did your surgery but I think you will be down there more than a week. Unfortunately, the time to worry was before you went to the DR. I’m sorry you are having this problem but if you come back home the treatment will cost many thousands more than the original surgery. This is the problem with discount out of the country surgery. Good luck with your problem, we all wish you a speedy recovery. (Steven Schuster, MD, Boca Raton Plastic Surgeon)

Unfortunately you have had a complications of tummy tuck that will delay recovery and may require further surgery but should heal with appropriate careDr Corbin (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
