How much weight should i lose before a tummy tuck
I would strongly encourage you to lose all your weight prior to undergoing the tummy tuck, To be frank, it is most likely that you will require an extended tummy tuck or even a full body lift (circufrerential belt lipectomy).
A tummy tuck will likely leave you with “dog-ears” that require revision. (Otto Joseph Placik, MD, Chicago Plastic Surgeon)
When you describe “torn stomach muscles”, what comes to mind to me is a tear in the muscle belly or possibly a muscle strain, generally brought on by excessive strain, either from exercise or some other strenuous force. While a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty will address several areas of interest in the abdomen, including diastasis or separation of the rectus abdominus muscles in the midline or linea alba, soft-tissue redundancy, and excessive lower abdominal striae or stretch marks, it won’t in itself address torn muscle.
Treatment of abdominal muscle injuries including muscle tears is difficult since there isnt an effective way to splint the abdomen. Additionally, it is nearly impossible to fully rest these muscles. Having said that, the most critical step after sustaining an abdominal muscle strain is to allow the muscle to cool down and allow the inflammation to reside. Avoiding exercise to allow the injured muscle to heal is important.
Gentle stretching can be of help, but it should not be done to the point of inducing painful, as this may be a sign of further damage. Excessive stretching can be harmful, and slow the healing process. I would suggest applying ice to the injured muscle in the acute phase (first 48 hours after injury), and then after activities.
Before activities, gentle heating can help to loosen the muscle. You should definitely follow-up with your primary physician should the symptoms persist or become worse. (Jack Gelman, MD, Frankfort Plastic Surgeon)
It is best to do tummy tuck surgery at your stable weight
Try to get to the weight you feel you can maintain before surgery. This reduces the tendency toward revisions. If your weight changes much after tummy tuck surgery, then the result may change. This isn’t common but it does happen. (John P. Di Saia, MD, Orange Plastic Surgeon)
The surgeons below have given good advice. Target weight loss will allow you the best chance to achieve the best tummy tuck result. (Michael J. Brown, MD, Leesburg Plastic Surgeon)
