Liposuction or tummy tuck

Achieving your goal weight prior to surgery is typically recommended. Whenever there is excess skin on the abdomen, liposuction alone is usually not the right option for an optimal outcome with a flat abdomen following surgery.

Liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck to achieve the best results. Consult with two or more board certified plastic surgeons in your area to make an educated decision regarding the options that are best for you. (Nicholas Tarola, MD, Nashville Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck

Liposuction alone is not going to greatly improve your contour or body shape. Lipo alone could very well worsen your results due further deflating the abdominal skin without removing or tightening it. Therefore, I recommend a tummy tuck. Bigger scar but much better tummy tuck results in your situation due the excess skin and lipodystrophy. (Marc Polecritti, DO, Spring Hill Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction

An in-person examination by a board certified plastic surgeon is the best way to discover your surgical options. Since you had a baby so recently (only 4 weeks ago!), it is best that you wait until you feel that you are back at your “normal” baseline. This may take close to a year, depending on your activity level, breastfeeding, etc.

It is typical after having multiple children that the abdominal muscles loosen and the skin stretches, making a tummy tuck the best option. A surgeon will not be able to assess your abdomen, however, until the recent childbirth changes have normalized.  (Emily J. Kirby, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)

Liposuction is meant for body shaping in patients with tight skin and normal weight. It is unsuitable for your situation. You will need abdominoplasty and lipocontouring of your waist and back to achieve your goals. (Vasdev Rai, MD, Dallas Plastic Surgeon)

Which would you recommend; Tummy-Tuck or Liposuction?

I recommend reaching your ideal weight first – then have an abdominoplasty – it is an amazing procedure that will remove all of your excess skin and fat, and will tighten your muscles. Lipo alone in my opinion – is not going to produce the results you’re seeking. (Thomas Trevisani, Sr., MD, Orlando Plastic Surgeon)

I recommend that my patients try to get back to their pre-pregnancy or ideal body weight if possible. From what I can see on your photo, you will require a tummy tuck in combination with liposuction to contour your hips/waist.

Liposuction alone would likely leave you with loose, stretched out, overhanging skin. Check with a board certified plastic surgon and make sure you have all of your questions answered. (Matthew H. Steele, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)

TT vs Lipo

Unfortunately the amount of loose skin is too much for just doing liposuction. May recommendation would be to wait 2-3 months so your body recovers completely from giving birth, and then you can start planning on the best course to take to improve the appearance of your abdomen. (Carlos Castaneda, MD, Mexico Plastic Surgeon)

And definitely the whole area will improve losing some weight but the flaccid skin degree you have, will not improve with liposuction.

But the contrary liposuction will only make that skin more flaccid. You are a great candidate for a Tummy Tuck with wonderful results waiting for you. (Laura Carmina Cardenas, MD, Mexico Plastic Surgeon)

As you know you will lose more weight, wait until then. After losing it, upload more photos or make an appointment with a certified board plastic surgeon. (Yily De Los Santos, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)

The Liposuction or tummy tuck

I think that you will do well with tummy tuck surgery at some point. In my practice, I would not offer you liposuction surgery alone; the aesthetic outcome would not be pleasing.

The ‘ideal’ patient for tummy tuck surgery is one who has completed pregnancies, is psycho socially/emotionally/financially stable, has an excellent social support system surrounding him/her, is capable of arranging enough recovery time, does not smoke and who has reached a long-term stable weight. (dedicated to tummy tuck surgery concerns) helps.  (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
