Losing weight after tummy tuck
Should not hinder your results
If you had a significant amount of weight to lose, then it could affect the results by created more loose skin after the procedure. In your case with just 15-20lbs, it should be fine. It is best to see a PS and let them examine you to make sure that you are a good candidate for the procedure and any further recommendations. (Erika Sato, MD, Houston Plastic Surgeon)
Major weight loss but 20 pounds to go
I do not believe a post-operative loss of 15 – 20 pounds will affect your tummy tuck result. If you have not reached a plateau – lose the weight. If you can’t – then have the surgery. (Elizabeth Morgan, MD, PhD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
Weight loss prior to tummy tuck
Los as much weight as you can prior to a tummy tuck procedure. If you can not lose that last 10 or 20 lbs, don’t worry. It will not prevent you from having a good result. Consult with an experienced plastic surgeon for a thorough evaluation. I’m sure you’ll lose about 7-10 lbs of skin alone during the tummy tuck anyway. (William Bruno, MD, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
When to have body contouring procedures?
Its essentially when you reach a weight that you can maintain with your current lifestyle (eating and exercise) and it sounds like you are already there. If you have to ‘bust your buns’ to lose weight, its impossible for you to maintain it for a prolonged period unless it consumes you and becomes your life. Additional losses of 5-10 pounds after procedures often improve the results. But understand, revisions can always be done where it beneficial. (Curtis Wong, MD, Redding Plastic Surgeon)
Lose more weight prior to tummy tuck? Will it hinder my overall results if weight is lost after procedure instead of before?
Get to the weight you fell you can maintain. Yes losing more weight after the tummy tuck will cause lax skin. So lose it before the operation (Constance M. Barone, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
