Old woman plastic surgery
If you are active and in good health, 61 years old is not too old for a tummy tuck.
Most plastic surgeons will require a medical clearance from your primary care physician along with blood work and an EKG prior to surgery. (Lisa M. DiFrancesco, MD, Atlanta Plastic Surgeon)
I have had several patients your age that have done very well having a tummy tuck procedure. If your general health is good, you do not smoke, and you get clearance from your primary physician, you should have no problem.
Be sure you go to a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and ask to see before and after pictures of his/her patients. (Miguel Delgado, Jr., MD, San Francisco Plastic Surgeon)
Your Overall Health is Much More Important Than Your Age
There are young 61 year olds and old 41 year olds. If you are healthy, don’t smoke, and lead an active lifestyle you should do well. If you are not healthy, smoke, and lead an inactive lifestyle you should address those issues first. That said, there are typically age-based guidelines that your surgeon or anesthesiologist have that require certain pre-operative tests or medical clearance prior to surgery. (Douglas J. Mackenzie, MD, Santa Barbara Plastic Surgeon)
Assuming you are in good health, your age alone should not be a reason not to have a tummy tuck. I typically have my patients obtain a pre-op clearance from their primary care provider to be sure they are medically fit for surgery. (Victor Ferrari, MD, FACS, Charlotte Plastic Surgeon)
Absolutely not. If in relatively good health you should have no problems. I have done tummy tuck and even Body lifts in patients over 70 years of age. (Peter Fisher, MD, San Antonio Plastic Surgeon)
If you are good on health and your primary doctor do a medical clearance. If you do a completed CBC test, EKG and Chest XRay and everything is ok, you can be consider to do a Tummy Tuck. (Walkiris Robles, MD, Dominican Republic Plastic Surgeon)
Assuming you are in good health, your age should not be a contraindication to tummy tuck surgery. In my practice, I would ask that you see your primary care or internist prior to proceeding; obtaining “medical clearance” will be helpful.; hopefully your only regret afterwards will be not having done the procedure sooner. (Tom J. Pousti, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
Is 61 too Old for a Tummy Tuck?
When assessing how a patient will respond to an operation, it’s important to look at physiological age rather than chronological age. In other words, some 60 year olds are very healthy and may even appear younger than they really are, while other 60 year old patients seem even older than their stated age because of associated health problems.
Therefore, your plastic surgeon will determine how appropriate a tummy tuck is for you based upon your overall health as well as your abdominal anatomy, not just your age. Definitely meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to find out more! (Joshua Cooper, MD, FACS, Seattle Plastic Surgeon)
