Tattoos after tummy tuck

Tummy tuck and tattoo

I would recommend that you wait until you have had all of your children and you are as close to your ideal weight as possible.

A full tummy tuck will give you the best result by excising as much loose skin and fat as possible and tightening the abdominal muscles to help flatten your abdomen and narrow your waist.

A good majority of your tattoo will be removed but I doubt that your surgeon would be able to remove all of it. The tattooed words will be moved down to your lower abdomen with some portion of the pistol handles still visible. (Matthew H. Steele, MD, Fort Worth Plastic Surgeon)

Removal of tattoo with tummy tuck following pregnancy

My Tattoos after tummy tuck

Based upon the one image that you have posted, you have enough laxity of the tissues above your belly button that you would not be a good candidate for mini-tummy tuck. In order to get the best results from a full tummy tuck, you would likely lose most of the part of the tattoo below the belly button, but exactly how much is difficult to tell before tummy tuck surgery.

There is a high likelihood that the entire image of the crossed guns would be removed, leaving only the wording, which would then wind up lower on the abdomen within or slightly above the pubic region. (Joseph L. Grzeskiewicz, MD, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)

From looking at your photo, I think a full tummy tuck would give you the best results. This is just a guess; an in-person evaluation would be needed to determine whether you are a candidate for surgery. As the other surgeons have said, it’s important that you are finished having children before you get a tummy tuck, as another pregnancy could compromise your results.

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat, and unfortunately, this includes your tattoo. I would guess that most (but not necessarily all) of your tattoo will be removed with a full tummy tuck. Talk to your tattoo artist and find out whether there is any way to create a new design that incorporates your old tattoo if you are interested. If not, laser tattoo removal can help fade the ink pigments, but this may take several sessions. (Thomas McNemar, MD, FACS, San Ramon Plastic Surgeon)

Tummy tuck removes most of lower abdominal tattoo

The lower abdominal loose skin and stretch marks can be sucessfully removed with a tummy tuck. Abdominoplasty will remove most of the lower abdominal skin and tattoo. parts of this tattoo will remain in the lower abdomen. (S. Sean Younai, MD, FACS, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)

Your Tattoo Will Be Affected from an Abdominoplasty

Pregnancy can result in dramatic changes in a women’s body. These changes are especially noticeable in the abdomen, where saggy redundant skin, weakened abdominal muscles and stretch marks may occur. Your pictures suggest that you would most likely benefit from a full abdominoplasty. It appears that you not only have excess skin and fat below the umbilicus, but above the umbilicus as well. When the skin is located primarily below the level of the umbilicus, mini abdominoplasty is usually indicated.

Unfortunately, when significant amounts of excess skin and weakened muscles are located above the umbilicus, full abdominoplasty is necessary to correct this problem. Utilizing this approach, the skin from the pubic hairline to the area immediately above the level of the umbilicus would be removed.

This would remove the majority of your tattoos after tummy tuck, but the superior portion would be left intact. This portion of the tattoo would ultimately rest at a lower level somewhere below the belly button. Finally, you’re eighteen, and may eventually want to have more children. You should not undergo abdominoplasty until you’re done having children. (Richard J. Bruneteau, MD, Omaha Plastic Surgeon)

How Will Mini or Full Tummy Tuck Affect my Tattoo?

A tattoos after tummy tuck

A full tummy tuck would take almost all of the lower abdominal tattoo except for the area above the navel. The area removed by a mini – abdominoplasty would be much less. (Thomas Guillot, MD, Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon)

Tattoo and tummy tuck

Your tattoo will be mostly gone but there will still be the writing left in a lower position. The upper parts of the guns will be left also and will end up near or just avove the abdominal tummy tuck incision. You need a full tummy tuck and liposuction of the fat in the hips/other areas. A mini tuck is not a good option to get you the really nice result.

Interestingly, You can modify your tattoo later in the new positon in ways that your tattoo artist would discuss with you.

The remnants of your present tattoos might be interesting in new tattoo additions if you choose to go in that direction but otherwise, at least 75 % or more of your present tattoo below the belly button will be gone. (Steven M. Lynch, MD, Albany Plastic Surgeon)
