Type of tummy tuck after weight loss
You are absolutely correct. It is a case by case determination, so you should visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience with weight loss patients.
It really depends on your physical examination, so an online opinion won’t suffice. The link below shows a tummy tuck on a patient who lost 100 pounds. (Heather J. Furnas, MD, Santa Rosa Plastic Surgeon)
Since we have no idea what your abdomen looks like therrre is no way to give you any suggestions pertinent to your specific needs. Personally I rarely find the vertical incision necessary but there are times when it will improve the outcome. (Ronald V. DeMars, MD, Portland Plastic Surgeon)
Weight loss and vertical incisions with a tummy tuck
Congratulations on your weight loss. It is not really possible to answer this question accurately. However, I don’t find it necessary to use a vertical incision with a tummy tuck in most patients in whom I do post bariatric surgery. I would recommend seeing a surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Best of luck! (Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, San Diego Plastic Surgeon)
Tummy Tuck following massive weight loss
As you already understand there is a possibility that a vertical incision could be used but is rarely required with a tummy tuck even with massive weight loss. There are reasons to use the vertical incision and it can be used if you want to trade the scar for the possible added results. When patients have a scar in the midline from the previous operation, this option can be used because there is no added scar. Discuss the different options with your plastic surgeon and you will able to make the best decision for your goals. The bottom line is, the vertical incision is not required but when you discuss your situation with your surgeon you may decide it is beneficial for you. (Marcus L. Peterson, MD, Saint George Plastic Surgeon)
It really requires photos and/ or an examination to give a definitive answer so go on some in person consults (Frederic H. Corbin, MD, Brea Plastic Surgeon)
