Bruising after tummy tuck
After tummy tucks and liposuciton it is very common to have bruising and swelling. The bruising usually goes away in a few weeks along with the majority of the swelling. Most of the products available for swelling and bruising don’t work too well. I would just relax and let time take its toll and allow you to heal the “natural way” (Steven Wallach, MD, Manhattan Plastic Surgeon)
Bruising after tummy tuck can be made worse when lipo and a tummy tuck are performed at the same time. It should get better with time though. Some patients have tried Arnica Montana, an herb, and believe it may hasten the resolution of the bruising. Just give it some time, you are looking pretty good and you are early in the healing. (John P. Di Saia, MD, Orange Plastic Surgeon)

Although the bruising looks pronounced right now, you’ll be surprised at how much it dissipates in the upcoming weeks. There may be some minor discoloration left, but bruising should mostly be resolved around the two-to-three week mark. While most of your swelling will dissipate over the first six to eight weeks, it takes up to six months for all the swelling to go away. In the meantime, drink lots of fluids and give your body time to heal. (David N. Sayah, MD, FACS, Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon)
Healing Bruises After Tummy Tuck and Liposuction
I think you have a very good result and you will be happy with it when it is completely healed. Your bruises are probably a result of your liposuction and they are in the pubic area and knees due to gravitational pull. They should disappear in a few weeks. Follow-up with your Plastic Surgeon as scheduled. (Thomas Guillot, MD, Baton Rouge Plastic Surgeon) The best way to recover is to do exactly what your doctor recommends. Nutritional supplements are a good way to prepare for the surgery and can help in the healing process. We suggest Vitamedica’s surgical recovery program. Being patient in the first three weeks can be hard however your body needs a little time and you will be even happier with the results. (Charles Perry, MD, Sacramento Plastic Surgeon)
Smooth contour and great shape to the belly button. I like a vertical oriented belly button like you have. I do not like the inverted smile belly button shape that some doctors provide. If you look at any swimsuit model, their belly button looks like yours. As for swelling, I tell my patients the following: Avoid spicy and salty foods Medical massage or lymphatic drainage should only be done 6 weeks after the surgery, to keep the treatment from putting undue stress on the sutures.
Arnica Montana and Bromolein are two homeopathic medications that can improve swelling. Real scientific support for these claims is lacking! I advise my patients to perform their own massage after three weeks while in the shower.
This massage is small circular motions. As with any advice on this site, seek your own doctor’s advice, because it is obvious that he or she knows what they are doing! (Robert M. Freund, MD, New York Plastic Surgeon)
